Light at the end of the tunnel

Here's another shot - taken about 1913 - of the original Helensburgh station precinct, looking south towards old Tunnel No 4.

You can see light at the end of the tunnel, shining from the Metropolitan Colliery end. Passengers could tell when a train was about to arrive; it would block the clear view south!

A portion of the original platform (closest to the tunnel mouth) was uncovered recently by local historians.
The station buildings have long gone, and much of this area is now simply a dip in Tunnel Road (the road on the right still exists).
